SUMMARY:French Car Day at Autobooks - with bonus Neon Demo
DESCRIPTION:  \nFRENCH CAR DAY AT AUTOBOOKS – SATURDAY MARCH 5 \nCars & coffee starts at 9:00 \nClub members Paul & Dydia will strut their stuff for us! \nNEON A LIGHT HISTORY\nIs it possible that (once again) everything we know is wrong? Well\, in regards to the history of neon\, this may well be the case. Dydia DeLyser and Paul Greenstein have penned a brief\, but concise history of the neon sign beginning at the beginning\, and covering scandals\, murder\, fascists\, and forgotten inventors. A full-color\, lavishly illustrated electrical bodice ripper\, aficionados of neon will find this an indispensable “bible” to the history of their favorite collision of art and commerce. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Rendez Vous 2022
DESCRIPTION:             West Coast\n    Citroën Rendez Vous 2022\n  \nTHE VENUE\n \nAfter considering venues all the way from Pacific Grove east through Salinas and San Juan Bautista\, we are pleased to announce that we settled on Sonora.\n \nIn the beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills and at the very heart of California’s “Gold Country”\, the town is named after the miners from Sonora Mexico who settled the City in 1848. Known as the “Queen of the Southern Mines”\, Sonora still holds on to its historic downtown charm while thriving as the commercial\, government and cultural center for the region.\n \nOur home base for the weekend will be the Best Western Sonora Oaks Hotel. Rooms include a full breakfast\, WiFi\, and access to the on-site pool. Our group rate is $144/night and they’ve agreed to offer that rate for 30 rooms. After that it is market rate\, which is usually about $165/night.\n \nClick here to register for Rendez Vous Twenty Two! \nIMPORTANT: in addition to registering for the Rendez Vous\, you MUST separately make a hotel booking at this link:\n \nhttps://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/book/hotel-rooms.05408.html?groupId=3X5TE0C1\n \nTHE PROGRAMME\n \nOn Friday night we will welcome people at the registration area. You’re encouraged to join us for a casual\, prepare-your-own dinner on the hotel BBQ\, or drop by for drinks before exploring dinner options in town. We will send more information about that as the date approaches.\n \nOn Saturday morning we’ll head out on a scenic drive through incredibly beautiful foothills. Our endpoint will be the home of longtime SFRCCC members Susan and Peter Kendall. There we will enjoy included soft drinks and whichever of these boxed lunches you’ve selected at registration:\n \nThanksgiving\n \nRoasted Turkey\, spiced cranberry sauce\, mayo\, lettuce\, on “stuffing” bread.\n \nOR \nRoast Beef\n \nRoasted and sliced tri-tip\, horseradish cream cheese spread\, caramelized onions\, lettuce\, on a ciabatta roll.\n \nOR \nVeggie\n \nSautéed onions\, peppers\, and mushrooms\, with alfalfa sprouts\, tomato\, cucumber\, Provolone cheese\, fresh hummus\, on sliced multi-grain bread.\n \nOver lunch\, hang out and chat amongst the cars\, and take in a technical session or two under the lift in Peter’s dream garage.\n \nThe Kendalls live just 10 minutes away from both downtown Sonora and the hotel\, so Saturday afternoon you can either dip into a museum in town\, or dip into the hotel’s pool. Your choice!\n \nFrom 6pm on Saturday we will enjoy finger food and beverages in advance of a 7pm plated dinner at the hotel’s Oak Glen room. You’ll start with an appetizer and whichever of these options you selected at registration:\n \nGrilled Moroccan Chicken Supreme w/ Black Currant-Tomato Chutney\, Preserved Lemon Rice Pilaf\,\n \nBraised Brussels Sprouts w/ Creamy Sriracha & Shaved Asiago\n \nOR \nGrilled Ahi Tuna Steak w/ Mango Salsa\, Coconut Rice\,\n \nBroccoli\, Onion\, Red Pepper\, Summer Squash Stir-fry\n \nOR \nWild Mushroom Ragout on Creamy Coconut Polenta w/ Parsnips\, Chick Peas & Miso\n \nBroccoli\, Onion\, Red Pepper\, Summer Squash Stir-fry\n \nYour three-course dinner INCLUDES all soft drinks\, wine\, beer\, and coffee.\n \nDuring dinner on Saturday night we will enjoy some very special entertainment and an awards programme.\n \nWhile there are no planned events on Sunday\, we’ll be sending you more information about local sights and driving routes that you can explore individually.\n \nCHANGES TO COSTS and new GLUTEN FREE/SPECIAL DIET OPTION\n \nWe thought long and hard about how to share the costs of this event more fairly. So\, this year we are replacing the per-PARTY registration fee with a much lower per-ADULT fee of $25. This means that everyone will end up paying the same amount instead of couples essentially paying half as much as a single person.\n \nWe’ve also changed the price of dinner. The caterer is charging us $65/plate\, but after adding taxes\, tips\, beverages\, and facility charges\, that $65 dinner ends up costing the better part of $100/person. The gap between what we collect and what we spend is covered by the hosting Club. With a hundred attendees\, even a $5/person shortfall translates into a $500 expense. So\, the price of dinner is $65 per attendee\, and on the online registration form there’s a place where you can chip in a little extra to cover the shortfall\, if you are so inclined. But\, no pressure to do so.\n \nAlso new this year: there are delicious gluten-free and special diet options for both the boxed lunch and the plated dinner. Just use the checkbox on the registration form and we will get in touch with you to sort out the details.\n \nRegister now!  Registration goes from $25 to $35 per person on September 1. \nClick here to register for Rendez Vous Twenty Two!

SUMMARY:West Coast Citroen Rendez Vous October 18-20
DESCRIPTION:West Coast Citroën Rendez-Vous\n\nOctober 18-20\, 2024\n \nEl Capitan Hotel Merced\, California\nJoin us October 18-20 for the 2024 West Coast Citroën Rendez-Vous in Merced\, California!\n \nFinding a venue that can accommodate a hundred people at a reasonable price proved quite a challenge! After considering dozens of venues\, we’ve settled on Merced for our West Coast Citroën Rendez-Vous\n \nA youthful and diverse community\, Merced is located in the heart of California’s agricultural Central Valley and was historically known as the «Gateway to Yosemite». The revitalized downtown is emerging as the arts and entertainment centre of the area.\n \nOur home base for the weekend will be the historic 114-room El Capitan Hotel. Designed by architect Edward T. Foulkes\, whose résumé includes the grand Oakland Tribune office tower in downtown Oakland\, the El Capitan was a favourite in the 1920s of Mary Pickford\, America’s sweetheart of the silent film era\, and her husband\, Douglas Fairbanks. The hotel was renovated and completely modernized in 2021.\n \nOur group rate ranges from $139 to $165 per night depending on the room selected.\n \nAs usual\, we’ll have a Saturday drive and scenic luncheon. Our dinner that night will be at the historic Mainzer Theatre next door to the hotel.\n \nREGISTRATION AND DETAILS HERE\n \nSee you in October!

SUMMARY:Citroën Mechanics Appreciation Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:Save the date for something extra special. Along with the normal club outings this year we have an opportunity to meet and give our thanks for the many tireless years that the professional mechanics have provided services to our community. Without them we would be at the mercy of our best reading of the maintenance manuals and Haynes books to try to make repairs and critical adjustments to cars that bare only a similarity to all others. Citroens are unique\, and the owners are eclectic at best. We all enjoy our cars when they are operating like they should\, and our mechanics have been there for us to make sure they do. This will culminate in a luncheon being given in their honor come June 1st. Three of the major Citroen Clubs in California will be gathering for a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet and greet them as well as see some fine examples of Citroen cars. It will be a long drive for some and probably an overnight stay. There are many attractions in the Gold Country and those who come early\, there will be plenty to do. The luncheon officially starts at 1:00pm\, but early arrivals to secure parking and to see cars are encouraged. \n
